SOUTH AMERICAN RIVER DOLPHIN INITIATIVE SARDI

SARDI's Scientific Expeditions are fundamental to generate key data on river dolphin distribution, threats, behaviors and, especially, population size. The teams navigate up to 12 hours a day on national and transboundary rivers in the Amazon, Orinoco and Tocantins-Araguaia basins, aboard adapted vessels. These expeditions seek to estimate the density of dolphins, their interaction with the ecosystem and calculate the population size, essential information for their conservation. Since 2012, SARDI has been leading the standardization of river dolphin sampling methods globally.
