At SARDI, we seek to work collaboratively to mitigate the impacts of these threats, focusing efforts on the preservation of the Amazon and Orinoco ecosystems and the services they provide. In this way, we aim to ensure the well-being of the dolphins and the millions of people who share and depend on water and other natural resources.
MONITORING
Scientific capture of pink dolphins
Research and conservation efforts of the Amazon Aquatic Mammal Research group of the Mamirauá Institute, Brazil, focused on the monitoring and capture of pink dolphins in the Amazon River.
EXPEDITIONS
Casiquiare Expedition, saving the Amazon pink dolphin
In 2023, a team of 15 scientists conducted an expedition in the Venezuelan Amazon.
WWF Colombia, Fundación Omacha and Proyecto Sotalia, on behalf of SARDI, supported the Ministry of Popular Power for Ecosocialism in carrying out this expedition. Their findings provide crucial information on the health of their species and aquatic ecosystems.
